Recent developments in international conflicts increasingly show deep complexity, with various issues interacting with each other. In the European region, tensions between Russia and Ukraine continue, especially after Russia’s invasion in early 2022. Various international sanctions were imposed on Russia, which had an impact on the global economy. In addition, NATO countries are further strengthening their alliance, providing military assistance to Ukraine and recognizing the importance of collective defense. In Asia, the conflict between China and Taiwan is increasingly heating up. China has become increasingly aggressive in claiming sovereignty over Taiwan, which it views as a breakaway province. Military exercises carried out by the Chinese People’s Liberation Army around the Taiwan Strait have raised concerns in neighboring countries and the US. The US response to this situation included arms transfers and diplomatic support for Taiwan, as well as the announcement of a strategic doctrine that demonstrated a commitment to maintaining the security of the Indo-Pacific region. In the Middle East, the Syrian conflict is entering its tenth year. The international diplomatic compass sees an increasing role for Russia and Iran in supporting Bashar al-Assad’s regime, while various opposition groups remain divided. The conflict has exacerbated the humanitarian crisis, with millions of Syrian refugees seeking refuge in neighboring countries such as Türkiye and Jordan. Meanwhile, in Africa, tensions in Ethiopia’s Tigray and chaos in Sudan represent significant challenges to regional stability. In Tigray, a peace agreement signed in late 2022 brings hope, but implementation remains difficult. In Sudan, armed conflict between the armed forces and various paramilitary groups resulted in a severe humanitarian crisis. In the Southeast Asia region, the situation in Myanmar remains concerning following the military coup in 2021. The international community has condemned the crackdown on civil protests, while Asean is trying to find a diplomatic solution. However, progress was hampered by a lack of consensus among members. Finally, the issue of climate change is starting to influence the dynamics of international conflict. The instability caused by weather changes leads to greater resource conflicts, especially in vulnerable countries. Food and water security are becoming major concerns in many conflict zones, sparking new tensions between rival countries. With so much tension occurring, the role of diplomacy and international cooperation is very important in resolving this conflict and finding a long-term, sustainable solution. Every country must play an active and wise role so that peace can be realized in various parts of the world.
